Getting readdy to train for Tour De Cure

Tour 2009

What do you NEED in order to get started?

  • Bicycle (Road, Mountain, Comfort, Beach Cruiser, Fancy, Cheap, Clean, Dirty … ALL are perfectly fine.)
  • Helmet (No Helmet = No Ride.)  (No Helmet = Lack of brain to protect.)  Call Mary with ADA if you are in need of a helmet.
  • Water Bottle or Hydration Pack
  • Enthusiasm
  • Sense of Humor
  • Lycra Outfits (KIDDING – Lycra is optional!)

What SHOULD you have with you during every ride?

  • All of the above
  • Gloves
  • Gels, Bars or other forms of nutrition (Details about these will be explained at future clinics)
  • “Rider Survival Kit”
  • Seat Bag
  • Tire Lever, Extra Tubes Pump/CO2 Cartridges and Lever, and a Patch Kit so you will not end up stranded with a flat tire
  • Cell Phone
  • Cash (You never know what you might need it for)
  • Identification and ICE contact (In Case of Emergency)

SaturdaysFebruary 14 AND February 28

Join USAT Certified Trainer, Randy Paar, for a talk on nutrition, cycling and lots more!  You will meet at the Albertson’s parking lot at 11720 W Charleston (west of I-215, where Charleston becomes Blue Diamond Road – Route 159) at 9 AM.  Bring your bikes for group rides to Red Rock Canyon.
This is free for Tour de Cure registered riders.
Randy’s qualifications include:

  • USAT Level 1 Coach
  • USA Cycling Level 3 Coach
  • FIST Certified Bike Fitter
  • 9 time Ironman Competitor

Nonmembers can ride with the Las Vegas Valley Bicycle Club on any of their scheduled club rides.  LVVBC welcomes guest cyclists to Las Vegas from all over the world.  We only require you to sign our club ride waiver, wear your cycling helmet, have tire repair supplies, carry tire repair equipment and bring enough fluids for at least a two to three hour ride (2 – 24 oz bottles minimum).  Club rides usually try to leave at scheduled time, so please come a few minutes early and introduce yourself to the ride leader.

SATURDAY – WEEKLY SHOW AND GO! – 9:00 AM (Dec-March)  8:00 AM (April-May) 7:00 AM (June-Sept)  8:00 AM (Oct-Nov)
Meet behind Starbucks – 10250 W. Charleston Blvd. and Town Center. Ride assembly point in the parking lot behind Town and Country Bank.  Ride of 30 to 50+ miles depending on the route option chosen.   Tandems and Recumbents are always welcome.  Regular regrouping points on the route.   Very important that you call before the ride if you need directions.  Please bring enough water.  For information, Call LVVBC Ride Coordinator – Eric, 873-6256 (RR, M, H/LG, LF)   Coffee, other drinks and food available for purchase in the shopping center.  We meet on the patio by Starbucks after the ride for a social time.

SUNDAY – FLATLANDERS SPECIAL! – 9:00 AM (Dec-March)  8:00 AM (April-May)  7:00 AM (June-Sept)  8:00 AM (Oct-Nov)
Meet behind Einstein Brothers Bagels – 8400 W. Cheyenne.  Ride assembly point in the parking lot behind Einsteins.  This easy Sunday “Recovery Ride” with 25 miles of “flat land” terrain. There is also a ride option of 47 miles for those wanting something a bit longer. Tandems and Recumbents are always welcome.  No one will be dropped.  Regular regrouping points on the route.  Very important that you call before the ride if you need directions. Please bring enough water.  For information, Call LVVBC Ride Coordinator – Eric 873-6256 (RR, E/M, LG, LS)  Coffee, other drinks and food available for purchase at Einsteins.  We meet after the ride at Einstein’s patio for a social time.
